Maynooth University partnered with Threadable to support the launch of BoostMySkills, an innovative platform offering modular, stackable learning opportunities. Threadable delivered comprehensive software testing services to ensure the first public release of the platform—developed as part of the EU-funded Res4City project—was seamless, stable, and accessible to a diverse audience across Europe.

The Background

Maynooth University, a leading Irish institution known for its commitment to innovation in education, played a central role in the development of BoostMySkills , a pan-European platform designed to support micro-credential learning and recognition. The platform was originally built to support the RES4CITY project, which aims to foster skills development in the renewable energy and sustainability sectors. Given the international visibility and strategic importance of the platform, the university needed a reliable partner to conduct structured software testing before going live. The first public iteration of the BoostMySkills platform was a custom web application integrating user registration, course discovery and user tracking features. With multiple stakeholders involved- from academic institutions to EU partners - ensuring functionality, accessibility, and quality across different devices, browsers, and user types was critical. Maynooth University needed an agile testing team who could: • Rapidly assess the platform's readiness for public use. • Provide structured documentation and feedback. • Collaborate with the internal development team under tight deadlines.

Our Approach

Threadable worked closely with the BoostMySkills team at Maynooth University and their technical partners to deliver end-to-end software testing. Our approach included: • Test Plan Design : We developed a custom test plan focused on the platform’s core workflows—user registration, login, navigation, course access, and multilingual support. • Bug Reporting : All issues were logged using structured test reports, including screenshots, reproduction steps, and severity classification. • Collaborative Reviews : We conducted live review sessions with Maynooth’s internal and external teams to align on priority fixes and retesting.

The Results

Threadable’s engagement enabled Maynooth University to launch the RES4CITY version of BoostMySkills confidently and on schedule. Specific outcomes included: • Resolved 30+ usability and performance issues before public launch. • Reduced bug turnaround time by 40% through clear documentation and direct collaboration with developers. • Enhanced user experience by identifying overlooked navigation issues and layout inconsistencies. The platform is now being actively used by learners across Europe and the world, with a robust foundation to scale in future phases of development.
